Macys: New York Shopping

All the information about shopping at Macys New York

Proudly claiming to be the largest store in the world, Macy's on the corner of 34th Street and Broadway in New York City is a truly gargantuan shop, with around 2.15 million Square feet of shop floor to wander through. The flagship store of the 248 that make up the company's chain of department stores across America, Macy's has been a staple of New York life since 1902, when it moved to its present site.

The store sells absolutely everything that you could possibly want, from high quality designer jewellery through to discounted designer goods.

Macy's clearance sales are truly legendary, and see people queuing in the street for weeks in advance in order to secure the best deals, and throughout the year the store cements its ubiquity by sponsoring large events such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade along 6th Avenue, which features vast inflatable rubber animals including Mickey Mouse and has become an icon of the city.

The shop features legendary window displays that change with the seasons, and has an annual Christmas blow out where children can see Santa Claus in a large grotto tended by a swarm of colourful elves. Interestingly, the store is featured in the popular Christmas film "The Miracle on 34th Street".
